SUMMARY:A Conversation on the Future of Journalism in Zimbabwe
DESCRIPTION:Media Educational Development Initiatives for Africa –(M-E-D-I-A)\nTheme: Solutions Journalism\nOverview:\nAmid national and regional challenges, journalists and writers in Zimbabwe have a choice: engage in constructive or destructive journalism. Center for Media and Peace Initiatives —CMPI, a New York-based nonprofit media and public policy think-tank recommends solutions journalism. Under the aegis of its Media Educational Development Initiatives for Africa (M-E-D-IA), the Center’s training is designed to support freedom and independent media in Zimbabwe. Instead of looking backward at all the problems that have plagued the media in the internet age, CMPI’s MEDIA project highlights initiatives, projects, and individuals that are actively countering the gloom and doom of African journalism — and succeeding. This solution oriented approach to journalism practice will be the focus of a daylong conference for journalists, media professionals, scholars, and policy makers.\nThemed “Solutions Journalism: African Media and What Works” the conference will focus on examples in the media that are working and generating impact in Zimbabwe.\nThe training program – a daylong event will include lectures, and breakout sessions. A variety of journalism teachers, practitioners, and policy makers will lead discussions on the following key areas:\n\nJournalism in times of pandemic\nMedia projects to counter polarization and disinformation\nTechnology & security in editorial work and content delivery\nEffective methods for resisting threats to media freedom\nEngagement through social media\nSolutions and constructive journalism\nTrust-building techniques\nDifferent forms of storytelling\nInnovative business and ownership models\n\n\nThursday, September 2, 2021\n11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Zimbabwe Time)\n6:00 a.m. – 01:00 p.m. Eastern Time (US and Canada)\nRegister by Email:\nuchenna@mycmpi.org ( mailto:uchenna@mycmpi.org )\n\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/87261991527?pwd=V1NmWE4zWGdURzdrSHNGS1pOb1NpZz09\nMeeting ID: 872 6199 1527\nPasscode: 462215\nOne tap mobile\n+13017158592,,87261991527#,,,,*462215# US (Washington DC)\n+13126266799,,87261991527#,,,,*462215# US (Chicago)\nDial by your location\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 929 205 6099 US (New York)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\nFind your local number: https://us06web.zoom.us/u/ks4IIXO7d\n\n
